DESCRIPTION:ABOUT THE PROGRAM\nExplore the influence of Black art in America and celebrate African American heritage through dance\, music\, and visual art at this family program co-hosted by Homewood Museum and Inheritance Baltimore. Participants will be able to imitate the style of famous African American artists\, including Tom Miller\, David Driskell\, and Romare Bearden. There will be a live drum call\, a brief remembrance ceremony\, and a dance performance by Baltimore School for the Arts student Edward Lee III. \nREGISTRATION\n\nOpen to children 5 years old and above.\nChildren must be accompanied by an adult.\nBoth children\, and any adults accompanying them\, need to purchase individual tickets. \nDue to limited space\, there is a maximum of one parent/guardian per child. \nA second session of this program will be held from 2-3 p.m.\n\nTo reserve a spot at either session\, CLICK HERE.

DESCRIPTION:ABOUT THE PROGRAM\nMusic at Evergreen is Evergreen Museum & Library’s popular and eclectic series of classical music concerts that continues The Honorable John Work Garrett and Alice Warder Garrett’s tradition of presenting intimate performances in their home. The series’s 69th season concludes on February 19 with a performance by violinist Lun Li. \nPlease note: These are tickets for a single concert. To purchase subscription tickets for all three concerts in the 2022-2023 Music at Evergreen Concert Series\, click HERE. \n  \nABOUT THE PERFORMER\nA native of Shanghai\, China\, violinist Lun Li won First Prize in the 2021 Young Concert Artists Susan Wadsworth International Auditions\, The Paul A. Fish Memorial Prize\, the Buffalo Chamber Music Society Prize\, and was named John French Violin Chair at YCA. He is also the recent joint winner of First Prize at the Lillian and Maurice Barbash J.S. Bach Competition. Further accolades include winning second prize in Shanghai’s Haydn Chamber Competition\, resulting in an invitation to perform at the Helsinki Music Centre Festival. \nAn avid chamber musician\, Li has participated in the Marlboro Music Festival in Philadelphia; the Verbier Music Festival Academy in Switzerland; Music@Menlo’s international program in Atherton\, California; and Music from Angelfire in New Mexico. \nDuring the 2022-2023 season\, Li will make his New York City recital debut at Merkin Concert Hall and his Washington\, D.C.\, recital debut at the Kennedy Center’s Terrace Theater\, both presented by Young Concert Artists. Other recital and chamber music appearances include Clarion Concerts\, Brooklyn Chamber Music Society\, Jupiter Chamber Players\, Buffalo Chamber Music Society\, Evergreen Museum & Library in Baltimore\, Port Washington Library\, and Cutchogue Library. He will appear as concerto soloist with the Salisbury Symphony Orchestra and the Riverside Symphony at Alice Tully Hall. \nLi holds a Bachelor of Music from Curtis Institute of Music and a Master of Music from The Juilliard School. His mentors include Ida Kavafian\, Catherine Cho\, and Joseph Lin. SUMMARY:Sketching at Evergreen: Main Library
DESCRIPTION:ABOUT THE EVENT\nCalling all budding artists! Evergreen Museum & Library is once again offering sketching sessions throughout the museum. Each session is for 90 minutes and focuses on a single space in the museum (check different dates for new room offerings). This session features the Main Library at Evergreen\, which holds some 8\,000 rare books and manuscripts on its shelves. A docent will be on hand to answer any questions about the room\, the collection\, and the history of the house and its inhabitants.  \nIn order to protect our collection\, we ask that only pencils or colored pencils be used when sketching inside the house. **Any type of water pens are not allowed. Supplies are not provided with purchase of ticket. \nVISITOR INFORMATION\n\nMasks are optional\nIn order to protect our collection\, we ask that only pencils or colored pencils be used when sketching inside the house. **Water pens are not allowed. Supplies are not provided with purchase of ticket.\nDue to the historical nature of the building\, accessibility is limited\, and some parts of the museum can only be reached via stairs. \nStools are available for the duration of the session.\nFree self-guided tours of the gardens and grounds are included in admission. SUMMARY:Meaning\, Memory & Mystery: Curating Historical Native American Art
DESCRIPTION:ABOUT THE PROGRAM\nJoin Gaylord Torrence for his lecture\, “Meaning\, Memory\, and Mystery: Curating Historical Native American Art.” Torrence examines the distinct\, fundamental challenges that underlie the creation of exhibitions\, permanent galleries\, and publications — not only for the curator\, but also the communities\, tribal groups\, and nations whose ancestral works are being presented to the greater public.  \n\nABOUT THE SPEAKER \nGaylord Torrence is Emeritus founding Fred and Virginia Merrill Curator of Native American Art at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art and Professor Emeritus in Fine Arts\, Drake University. He is a specialist in Plains Indian visual culture and widely recognized for fostering new perspectives in historical Native American art and the recognition of contemporary indigenous artists. In 2018\, Torrence guest curated the inaugural permanent installation of Native North American art in the American Wing of The Metropolitan Museum of Art. His publications include Continuum: Native North American Art at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art (with Marjorie Alexander\, Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art\, 2020)\, Art of Native America: The Charles and Valerie Diker Collection (Metropolitan Museum of Art\, 2018)\, The Plains Indians: Artists of Earth and Sky (Musée du Quai Branly\, 2014)\, “The Raven Belt Ornaments of Lewis and Clark\,” in Arts of Diplomacy: Lewis and Clark’s Indian Collection\, ed.
