Bus Trip to Philadelphia!

September 8 @ 7:15 am - 6:30 pm

$125 – $145

Join the Lori Beth Finkelstein, Ph.D., Director of the Johns Hopkins University Museums, and Michelle Fitzgerald, Curator of Collections at Johns Hopkins University Museums, for a day trip to historic and cultural sites in Philadelphia!

After a luxury motorcoach ride to Philly, the day’s first stop will be guided tour of Cliveden, a historic site that preserves and interprets over 200 years of American history through the lives of the Chew Family and their staff, both enslaved and in service. Learn more about Cliveden and Homewood’s share history: the former was the childhood summer home of Harriet Chew Carroll and the latter her summer home after her marriage to Charles Carroll Jr.

Next stop is the Philadelphia Museum of Art for two hours of free time and lunch. Choose from one of four stylish eateries within the museum—two of which are in Frank Gehry-designed spaces—or just grab a sandwich from nearby Whole Foods and enjoy the view of the Schuylkill River from Fairmount Park.

The group will then reconvene for a guided tour of the Philadelphia Museum of Art’s Early American Art, 1650 to 1850 , which explores how Philadelphia became the young nation’s cultural capital, and how Black, Indigenous and Latin American artists contributed to the development of American art.

Please Note: The bus will depart promptly at 7:15 a.m. from Evergreen Museum & Library and travel by motorcoach to Cliveden for a 10 a.m. tour. We will then arrive at the Philadelphia Museum of Art around noon where everyone will have free time until 2:30 p.m. when the tour begins. We will depart Philadelphia at 4 p.m. for an estimated return to Evergreen by 6:30 p.m. (traffic depending). Please wear comfortable shoes and weather-appropriate clothing. Walking will be required.
